Estimating Diameter in a Bezel
Since the diamond goes under the bezel, you must add its edge to the visible area when measuring diameter.
Very often a mounting can be a serious hindrance in determining the proportions of a diamond. A perfect example is the full bezel, sometimes called a gypsy mount setting, that makes it next to impossible to measure the diameter of the diamond in question. The amount of metal the setter uses around the rim of the crown to set the diamond, will determine the number of hundredths or tenths of a millimeter that must be added to the visible diameter of the diamond.
