Master Stones
This mounted diamond is oriented so a view of the pavilion can be compared to the master stone to its right.
A face-up view may also be helpful but the pavilion view will always be more revealing.
omparison or master stones are highly recommended for use in attempting to grade color in a mounting. After the diamond has been cleaned, place the mounting on a white, non-fluorescent and non-reflective background so the pavilion of the stone is exposed. To start, place your loose comparison stone next to it in a similar orientation. This will be the most revealing arrangement position for a semi-accurate color grade.
