The Point Cut

octahedral

This point cut resembles its original state with its octahedral faces cleaved.

The first cut was thought to be the point cut. This was almost identical to what a glassie would look like (as discussed earlier). The cutter cleaved (split) away the eight faces of the octahedral crystal into smooth triangular planes. Afterwards came the "table stone", which was the same cut with a facet on the top (located across one of the six points where four single grains join together). This design is thought to have been used as long as 2000 years ago.
