If you are serious about buying diamonds for profit, then broken, old cuts, and burned diamonds will come into play. A damaged polished stone would still be easier to evaluate than a piece of rough. The major advantage of buying a damaged finished diamond or old cut (over rough) is the greater visibility of color and clarity. Since finished stones don't have the rough diamond skin (except naturals), a clear view is very likely.
