Typical Telephone Conversation

Potential Buyer: I noticed your ad in the yellow pages (or wherever) and wanted to get some information from you.

Diamond Dealer: Yes, I'd be happy to answer your questions.

Potential Buyer: I've been shopping for an engagement ring and wanted to compare your prices with the wholesale Jewelry Center a few miles away. What can I get a 1.25 round G SI1 for?

Diamond Dealer: For a 1.25 Round Brilliant G SI1 with a good proportions and a GIA report the price would be $XXXX.

Potential Buyer: That's about $500 more than I was quoted at the Jewelry Center.

Diamond Dealer: When comparing prices, its important to compare the specifications also. Did this diamond come with a GIA report?

Potential Buyer: Well, I don't think it was GIA but it did have some kind of paperwork.

Diamond Dealer: To compare prices you have to compare specs and also the accuracy of the grading report that is representing it. Find out what the specs are on this diamond from the Jewelry Center and let me go over it with you. To get the brilliance and dispersion that makes diamond very special, you really want to stick with nice proportions. Discuss it with your fiancée and perhaps you can come by and let me give you a brief education on what to look for in cut, color and clarity with no obligation.

Potential Buyer: Do you have a stone like the one we're discussing?

Diamond Dealer: I'm not sure but I don't think so. I can show you some examples of color, clarities and sizes though. Anyway it would be to your advantage to let me shop the national market to find the best specs for the best price. First we should get together and see if this size and quality would really suit you.

Potential Buyer: That sounds good. Lets get together tomorrow evening.
