If working with a small inventory to supply your accounts, you will definitely need to go to outside sources to fill the needs of the calls. Once again, this is where a good credit rating and reputation is imperative. Diamond suppliers are abundant in the U.S., so finding one will be easy. Just like all other businesses, there are good ones and not so good ones. With experience, you'll find out what distinguishes these suppliers. Prices will be a big issue, but [when it really comes down to it] there shouldn't be many large differences. A few dealers will be out of line trying to get large markups on their inventory, while others will be very competitive. Some dealers will be very conservative in their grading and others will be a waste of time and shipping costs, because of their over-grading tactics. Every dealer makes occasional mistakes, but the overall consistency of reliability is the key.
