This only scratches the surface of potential hazards, most of which can be avoided by alert awareness. For more valuable diamonds, showing "by appointment" is recommended. If a person doesn't want to give out a work telephone number, be suspicious. A cell phone or pager number should also be regarded as suspicious, even though many people use that to keep a surprise gift confidential.
