Girdle Thickness and Color Grade
Many cutters look at the type of girdle as a strategy to manipulate the body color of the diamond.
The general rules-of-thumb are:
A thicker gray (bruted) girdle to detract yellow. It can make a difference of a half a grade when a G color or lower is in question.
A thinner or faceted girdle for colorless (D-F) and fancy colors. This is so the slight influence of the grayish cast of the girdle does not affect the color in a negative manner.
